What movies or TV series have you watched more than 5 times?
I am not a fan of the silver screen. I have my favourite films of course; Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings or Old Lace and Arsenic but my two favourite media are books and the radio.
Films such as Indiana Jones and the Search for the Holy Grail, Gold Finger or the better Starwars are good solid hero fare. The goodies are good, the baddies are bad and good wins which according to Oscar Wilde is the definition of fiction.
When it comes to books I agree with Tolkien that people just don’t like writing the stuff I (he and Lewis) like. I really enjoy Beowulf, the Battle of Maldon, Lord of the Rings, Narnia and other opportunities to see heroes defeating ogres, trolls and crunching up orcs.
But the ultimate medium is radio. I love a good radio performance particularly by the famous Brian Sibley. I think that his Lotrs radio series for the BBC was outstanding and clearly the best representation of the book. I also return over and over again to Giles Wemmbly Hogg and Bleak Expectations simply for the belly laughs. So funny.
